New Bern Ballet CompanyParticipation in NBBCo is a voluntary extra-curricular activity separate from taking classes at NBB and performing at NBB's Spring Showcase. Performances are where all the elements taught in the curriculum are put together into a theme or story for the audience to enjoy and appreciate. As those that have previously participated will attest, our performances are not trivial endeavors – there’s a lot of coordination, work and rehearsing to have a performance that we can be proud of. The rewards are an appreciative audience and your dancer's personal growth. Participation is open to all NBB Students enrolled in the Ballet Curriculum that are at least 5 years old as of October 16th, 2008. Family members of students participating in NBBCo can also participate on a space-available basis. Participation in NBBCo requires dedication and commitment on the part of NBB, the dancer and their family so that we can put on the best performance we can. Please review the Commitments page for details. The 2008/9 NBBCo Schedule is:

Fundamentally, ballet is a performing art with a rich tradition. We believe that the art and expression of ballet and its rich traditions are to be performed by, and shared with, the community. Performances are the culmination of the Dancer’s classroom instruction - it’s where they “put it all together” into a story for the audience to enjoy and appreciate. We are a youthful school so performance pieces are appropriate for all ages. Dancers will have the satisfaction and self-esteem garnered by a quality performance. Their stage presence and motivation will grow as they perform each piece. A quality performance also puts a positive light on the reputation of NBB – it will help the school grow and prosper. A quality performance takes commitment. Dancers, their families and the school must make a commitment of their time, talent and resources to have a performance that we can all be proud of. |
