Parents are expected to volunteer their time and talents to make each performance rewarding and positive experience for all the dancers. We realize that there are family circumstances that prevent some families from contributing as much as others - that is OK. We also understand that God has given us each our own talents and some families may not have any talents that are useful to a ballet company - that is OK too - there are lots of errands and transportation of sets/props/costumes that do not require any talent but a strong back and willingness to help. The important thing is a willingness to help and comply with directions from the Artistic Director, Business Manager, Ballet Mistress and Stage Manager. Please fill out the attached coordinator/volunteer sign-up sheet and turn in by February 9th. Coordinators - Miss Laura and Mr. Bob understand that not many of our families (if any) have any previous experience putting together a performance. What are needed most for the Coordinator positions are time, common sense and willingness to put forth the effort. Mr. Bob and Miss Laura are always available for consultation and guidance - you will not be left to figure it out on your own. Please indicate if you would be willing to be the person in charge of these functions for all three performances: Parent Liaison Ensures that rehearsal and performance information is received by everyone and follows-up on absent (for unknown reasons) dancers. Coordinates with parents to ensure that each rehearsal has a Rehearsal Mom (if needed). Contacts parents with any last minute details or changes. Performance Coordinator Coordinates with the performance venue to make sure they are ready for us and make sure that NBBCo and the performance venue are on the same page. Organizes any and all services or functions that are required for the performances (e.g. music DJ, announcers, narrators etc). Wardrobe Mistress The Costume/Wardrobe Mistress ensures that all the costumes are altered, labeled, sorted, laundered (before and after performances), ironed and packed and are ready in all respects for the performances; this also includes that each dancer has their shoes, tights and nude camisole. The Wardrobe Mistress also ensures that there are enough volunteers during the performances to handle all the costumes changes, setup and packing of costumes, shoes and accessories. Volunteers - The only skills/attributes required of our volunteers are time, common sense and willingness to put forth the effort. Miss Laura, Mr. Bob and the other Coordinators are available to guide you and answer any questions. Any materials required for costumes, sets, props etc will be provided by NBBCo. Please indicate all the functions you would be willing to help with you will be contacted by one of the Coordinators when help is needed. Backstage Crew - Volunteers are needed for each performance to direct the "traffic flow" of dancers to ensure they each get to where they need to be. The back stage crew also keeps the backstage and wings clean and organized for the dancers safety. Company Attendant - Monitors sign-ins and sign-outs at the performance venue and ensures that all backstage rules are adhered to by all volunteers, families and dancers. Costumes Work at the direction of the Wardrobe Mistress to create new costumes, alter existing costumes and prepare the costumes for the performance. Costume preparations include labeling, laundering, ironing, packing and racking the costumes. This entails making the headpieces and helping the dancers into and out of costumes before, during and after the performance. Costume volunteers may also work on preparation of shoes and accessories (gloves, bows etc.) Rehearsal/Performance Mom Makes sure that any young dancers that are needed at rehearsal for an extended time (over an hour this should only occur when we get close to the performance dates) are fed and hydrated and occupied with appropriate activities. Ensures that the young dancers are occupied with appropriate activities and are hydrated while at the performance venue. Set and Prop Construction/Fabrication Volunteers help Mr. Bob create/repair/rework the large props (e.g. growing Christmas tree) and create small props as needed. This is a great opportunity for dads to get involved. Set Transportation, Setup & Strike - Transport the flooring (if required), props, set and costumes to/from the performance venue. Helping with the setup of the stage before the performance and striking the stage afterwards. This is a great opportunity for dads and adult size brothers to get involved. The Set-up and Strike crew will also add the finishing touches to "dress" the stage. |
