New Bern Ballet News

November ‘08

Class Notes

Costume week was a big hit with all the dancers. The study and use of costumes helped create characters, explore stories and themes. Many classes were photographedby . Please send copies to the studio for the display area next to the front door.

November classes for the younger students will explore rhythmic instruments and rhythms. Beginner students will learn new steps and begin combinations while Intermediate students will continue work on expression and technique. The ballet story, The Nutcracker will be introduced and explored at all levels.

New Bern Ballet Company Notes

MUMFEST

Mumfest was a wet day this year yet we had a wonderful turn out for our show. Pictures from the performance will be available for purchase soon. If you have Mumfest pictures you’d like to share, please drop off a disk or e-mail them to misterbob@newbernballet.com.

NUTCRACKER

Nutcracker performances are quickly approaching. NBBco is set to perform December 13th at the NBB Christmas Party, December 14th for the public and December 15th for Craven County Schools. All performances are at Grover C. Fields this year.

We have a few child size Nutcracker t-shirts available from last year on sale at the studio - these are $10/each. Company members received apparel order forms this past weekend – company members need to turn in their apparel forms by November 8th for delivery prior to our performances.

School Christmas Party

Our School Christmas Party will be held on December 13th from 1:00-3:00PM at Grover C Fields Middle School on MLK Blvd. This special event will include family-time sharing the joy of the holiday ballet tradition The Nutcracker. The performance will be followed by a reception in the cafeteria, where a very Merry Elf will appear for all children, big and small, to tell wishes too. Bring cameras for this event – there’ll be photo opportunities with the Nutcracker, Clara, Sugarplum Fairy & the Very Merry Elf! Please see the Christmas Party Invitation for more details.

School Notes

Observation Week – Classes will share special Nutcracker Holiday dances for their families to observe – cameras are welcome.

Sibling behavior is expected to be quiet and calm so that it does not interfere with the learning environment. Please provide quiet activities for siblings as well as maintain supervision at all times - Child-friendly is not the same as child-proof! Please always make sure the play area and tables are cleaned up before you leave the studio – Thank you for your cooperation!

Ballet Dancers must have hair pulled back neatly off the face and neck. Long ponytails (more than 2 inches) must be in a bun or ponytail holder. Hair greatly interferes with learning of many ballet steps and “slinging ponytails” are a distraction to others.

Ballet Attire: Sue’s Dance Boutique will be restocking tights very soon. If you need class leotards or skirts, please let Sue or Miss Laura know ASAP so that those items can be delivered with the tights.

Order Your NBB Apparel Now for Christmas

NBB t-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants can be ordered at the studio. The order form can be downloaded from our website or hardcopies are available by the display at the studio – simply drop-off the order by November 21st to receive by Christmas.
