Welcome to NBB!
We believe that every student who takes dance, whether for improved fitness, coordination, confidence, an aspiring professional career, or just for fun, must be trained to the highest standards to ensure positive results. We consider ourselves to be an educational facility and not just a dance studio. Our expectation is to educate your child not only in the art of dance but also in the social skills needed to be a productive member of a group. We work on self-discipline and self-awareness as well as ballet and its history and terminology. We encourage and motivate with positive reinforcement and praise. Logical consequences are used only when needed to maintain the learning environment. Our curriculum also includes Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary Choreography & Ballet Live.
All classes at New Bern Ballet focus on one form of dance (there are no combination classes). This allows more time to spend on technique and terminology specific to one area of dance. Classes are small, providing the students with more interaction with the teacher. The Teachers and Assistants at New Bern Ballet are caring individuals, who care about the students and the art form. They strive to provide a creative environment in which the students can progress as dancers and have fun while doing so.
NBB
believes it important to provide a safe facility that is conducive
to learning. Our studio is arranged with separate waiting areas,
bathrooms, dressing rooms and dance studio - separating the dance
studio from these other areas removes distractions and maintains
the learning environment. The observation area has a one-way mirror
through which parents can see what’s happening in the studio without
diverting the students attention from the instructor. The studio
has a quality dance floor from StageStep, which is better for dancer’s
knees and feet. We’ve also custom fabricate furniture, fixtures
and props when we can’t find child-safe items commercially. These
attributes combine with a light and airy studio to provide an enriching
environment for students to dance and learn.
All dancers at NBB are invited to participate in our Spring Showcase. Dancers age 5 and up also have the opportunity to perform with our performance company. The New Bern Ballet Company performs several times during the year at venues across New Bern. We also offer a "Ballet Live" class where dancers produce and choreograph their own interpretation of a classic ballet story.
If you or your dancer is interested in New Bern Ballet, we encourage you to contact us and arrange a visit - we accept registrations year-round. Your dancer can try out a class while you observe through the one-way mirror in the parent observation area. Afterwards, you and your dancer can visit with Miss Laura and ask any questions. On our website, we also have listed our various programs, classes, schedules and faculty biographies, policies as well as details on our performance opportunities at Showcase and with NBBCo.
Thank you for your interest in New Bern Ballet, and we hope to see you and your dancer soon!
NBB prides itself in being a school and not just a dance studio. It's not just about learning Ballet and appreciating the art form...it's about learning life-skills too—from 2 year-olds being a good turn-taker to teenagers becoming responsible role models.
